OTL Software today announced the release of it's Veritas NetBackup Smart Plug-in for HP Operations Manager.
"We've been in the backup monitoring business for 9 years now" said Nigel Kelly, Channel and Relationships Manager at OTL, "and we've gathered a lot of real world experience on what's needed in a backup monitoring solution by listening closely to the needs of over 300 customers during that time." Data protection seems to be a much overlooked part of the IT infrastructure which can lead to costly and embarrassing situations where lost, changed or deleted files are unable to be retrieved. "For some reason people assume it's as easy as just getting the data back off the tape" says Kelly "and at the same time almost everyone has had the experience of losing a file because of backup that failed for entirely predictable reasons."
Kelly went on to point out what he calls "an irony of IT" where data protection is now required by law in most countries "yet almost everyone we speak to has the expectation of suffering some data loss at some point - and it seems to be accepted. It's quite a strange situation if you think about it. We provide the answer to that problem and the demand has been high enough for us to build a whole business on it."
OTL Software is a global leader in backup and cluster monitoring solutions and has plans to release other HP Smart Plug-Ins in the next 3 to 6 months.
